The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr Dermot Ahern T.D., spoke today following the confirmation that the remains recovered recently in Wicklow are those of Danny McIlhone.
Minister Ahern said "I am very conscious of the long period of suffering endured by the family of Danny McIlhone. I hope it is some small comfort that they are now able to give him a proper burial, a privilege denied to them for almost 30 years. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
"I want to commend the dedication and professionalism of the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains and its project team. The Government will continue to support the Commission in its work and I share the hope that similar closure can in time be brought to the other families of the disappeared."
