The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr. Alan Shatter, TD, today affirmed that three pieces of key legislation completed their passage through the Houses of the Oireachtas this week. They are:
· The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Bill;
· The Europol Bill 2012 and
· The Personal Insolvency Bill.
The National Vetting Bureau Bill assures greater protection for children and vulnerable adults by ensuring that those applying for such work are properly vetted and provides for the use of soft information in the vetting process.
The primary purpose of the Europol Bill 2012 is to implement into Irish law the EU Council Decision of 6 April 2009 establishing the European Police Office (Europol) and to provide for greater cooperation between EU member states in the fight against organised and serious crime.
The Personal Insolvency Bill represents the most radical and comprehensive reform of our insolvency laws and will be of assistance to thousands of people who are currently in major financial difficulty.
