The Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald TD has paid tribute to the late Mr Justice Paul Carney who died yesterday.
Expressing her condolences the Minister said: "I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Mr Justice Paul Carney’s wife and family on their very sad loss. Mr Justice Carney was a judge of exceptional ability who made a huge contribution to the High Court bench, in particular in presiding over many high profile criminal law trials. I know he will be greatly missed and sadly he did not get to enjoy the benefits of a long and well-deserved retirement."

The Hon. Mr Justice Paul Carney
Born in April 1943 in Dublin.
Education: Uppsala in Sweden and in Gonzaga College Dublin. He is a graduate of University College Dublin and the King's Inns
Called to Bar in 1966 and to the Inner Bar in 1980.
Appointed a judge of the High Court on 30 April 1991 and prior to retirement he was the most senior ordinary judge in the High Court and the presiding judge of its criminal division, the Central Criminal Court.
Retired from the High Court bench on 26 April 2015.
