Independent Panel of Psychiatrists for the Parole Board.
The principal function of the Parole Board is to advise the Minister for Justice and Equality on the administration of long-term prison sentences. The Board is seeking applications from suitably qualified consultant psychiatrists in order to establish a panel to provide it, where necessary, with independent psychiatric reports in respect of certain prisoners who are being considered for parole.
The Board, by way of recommendations, advises the Minister of the prisoner's progress to date; the degree to which the prisoner has engaged with the various therapeutic services; and how best to proceed with the future administration of the sentence.
In certain cases, the Board seeks psychiatric reports to support its recommendations to the Minister. In those cases, the psychiatrist will be required to examine existing reports on the prisoner concerned and/or to visit him or her in the prison concerned.
