#DontBeAfraid campaign launches

On Monday,Women's Aid launched its Cosc funded #DontBeAfraid campaign which encourages domestic abuse victims to seek support. Read more

The Women's Aid 'Don't Be Afraid' national public awareness advertising campaign

THE WOMEN'S AID 'DON'T BE AFRAID' NATIONAL PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN RUNS FROM MONDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2015 FOR TWO WEEKS: The campaign is funded by Cosc, the National Office for the Prevention of Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence (www.cosc.ie). Women’s Aid’s telephone helpline for women facing domestic abuse will offer a 24-hour, seven days a weeks service in 2016.

 

Minister Fitzgerald delivered a Second Stage Speech on the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 2015 in Seanad Éireann

On Tuesday, Minister Fitzgerald delivered  a Second Stage Speech on the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 2015 in Seanad Éireann

She said: "This Bill is the most comprehensive and wide ranging piece of sexual offences legislation to be introduced in almost a decade. It strengthens existing law to combat child pornography, the sexual grooming of children, incest, exposure and other offensive conduct of a sexual nature."  Read more

Minister for Equality announces details of consultation process on human rights in Ireland   

On Wednesday, the Minister of State for New Communities, Culture, Equality and Drugs Strategy, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD today announced details of two consultation processes on human rights as part of Ireland’s engagement with the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process, one with civil society and interested stakeholders, and the other with children and young people. Read more. 

 

Marriage Bill 2015 passes all Dail stages

On Wednesday, the Dáil approved the Marriage Bill 2015. It moved on to the Seanad.

Choice of Court (Hague Convention Bill) 2015

On Thursday, Minister of State Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, on behalf of Minister Frances Fitzgerald, made a Second Stage Speech in Dáil Éireann on Choice of Court (Hague Convention Bill) 2015. The purpose of the Bill is to make provision for the measures which are required to ensure that the Hague Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements can function effectively within the Irish legal system. Read more
 

Minister Murphy attends High Level Migration Conference on the Western Balkans Route

On Thursday Minister for European Affairs Dara Murphy TD attended a High Level Conference on the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Balkans routes currently being favoured by migrants trying to reach the European Union. Read more.

 

Need to upgrade Wicklow Court House

On 8th of October, Minister of State Paudie Coffey TD, on behalf of the Minister Frances Fitzgerald, gave a response to a Topical Issues debate on the need to upgrade Wicklow Court House and develop a Four Courts Campus in line with the development plans by the Courts Services.  Read more

 

Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP) – Expressions of Interest Sought

On Friday, an advert was placed in national newspapers and on the website’s home page; the Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP) are seeking Expressions of Interest for commercial offers for accommodation and associated services.  Once these are received the IRPP intends to draw up a list of potential service providers whom they may contact when services are required. Read more
