456. Deputy Niall Collins asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if she will provide in tabular form the number of persons currently in prisons here between the ages of 16 and 25; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1410/15]

Answer

Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Frances Fitzgerald): I wish to inform the Deputy that the total number of persons in prisons between the ages of 16 and 25 years of age on 13 January 2015 was 844. This figure is made up of 824 males and 20 females. Their ages are set out in the following table.
