697. Deputy Mick Barry asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda National Immigration Bureau can agree to a face-to-face appointment with an Egyptian national (details supplied]) who was recently granted a change of status but is required by the Egyptian authorities to have an up-to-date visa sticker on their recently renewed Egyptian passport if they are to be permitted to visit their family in Egypt and to return to Ireland for a pending Labour Court hearing; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Justice (Deputy Heather Humphreys): I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the person concerned has attended an appointment at the Burgh Quay Registration Office and has had their permission updated.
Queries in relation to the status of individual immigration cases may be made directly to my Department by e-mail using the Oireachtas Mail facility,, which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Questions process. The Deputy may consider using the e-mail service except in cases where the response is, in the Deputy’s view, inadequate or too long awaited.
