Question

229. Deputy Jonathan O'Brien asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality her plans to amend the legislation on the taking of oaths and to make it fit for purpose. [13536/16]

Answer

Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Frances Fitzgerald): The question or reform of the judicial oath is currently under consideration in my Department. As the Deputy may be aware a referendum would be required to amend the Constitutional provision in question. There are currently no plans to review statutory or any other requirements under the law in so far as they relate to oaths sworn in court by jurors or otherwise.
