The Minister for Justice, Equality & Defence, Mr. Alan Shatter TD, today expressed his sympathy on the recent death of Sergeant Feargal McHugh. Speaking [from Australia] on the occasion of the removal of Sergeant McHugh’s remains to the Holy Rosary Church, Greystones, Minister Shatter said "I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family of Sergeant McHugh on this sudden loss. I would also like to extend my condolences to his colleagues in the Garda Síochána. The Garda Síochána have lost a dedicated member who was known throughout the community he served." 

The Minister noted that Sergeant McHugh’s son has recently joined the Garda Reserve and carries on a proud tradition of service in the family.
