Minister Fitzgerald hosted UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon at Farmleigh on 25 May 2015. They held a private bilateral meeting concerning migration and refugees.

Following this, Ban Ki-Moon and the Minister greeted the staff of the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration and the UNHCR Ireland Office (UN Refugee Agency).

 A public event was held with approximately 30 members of resettled refugee communities.

There were short speeches from Sophie Magennis (Head of Mission UNHCR Ireland), Ban Ki-Moon, Ms. Razan Ibrahim, a Syrian lady whose mother, father and brother were admitted to Ireland under the Syrian Humanitarian Admission Programme (SHAP) and Minister Fitzgerald.

Mr. Peter Sutherland, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on International Migration and Development was also in attendance.
